In Defense of Pop Music and Narcissism
Interesting perspective by Nitsuh Abebe in New York Magazine: read the full article here
“We now have access to a ridiculous variety of media. The music we spend our private time on, and use to build our identities, varies more wildly than ever from person to person. But there’s at least one kind of music that needs consensus to function, and that’s the stuff we dance, party, and strut around to. “The club” might be the last remaining space where strangers are all forced to pay attention to the same songs. And whether it’s an actual club or just a bedroom, it tends to be a space where people enjoy feeling fabulous.”
FUNK LA PLANET PRESENTS “JUMP UP”
The teaser for DJ Fudge Feat Afrika Bambaataa has studio footage of Bambaataa surrounded by funky edits and bold graphics.
TODDLA T FEATURING ROOTS MANUVA “WATCH ME DANCE”
So if we took Blondie’s “Rapture” video, added some of Robert Palmer’s “Addicted To Love” video babes, gave them Martha Graham dance lessons and asked the ghost of Keith Haring to paint all over it, you would have the new Toddla T video. Roots Manuva is featured in the clip with Toddla giving 2 little cameo appearances. The 23 year old UK upstart has his second LP Watch Me Dance dropping in August on Ninja Tunes. Listen to the rest of the mixes here.

ROSIE LOVES HIM BUT CRAIG FERGUSON DOESN’T KNOW DANNY KRIVIT?
We do love that Rosie Perez is incredulous that Craig Ferguson doesn’t know Danny Kravatz aka NYC dj legend Danny Krivit. His 718 Sessions are one of the longest running, most beloved parties in NYC right now but not too sure we’re gonna be seeing David Letterman spreadin’ the baby powder anytime soon. Their conversation does stir up memories of 80′s NYC clubbing and we also love that Craig was fired as a bouncer at Save The Robots.
JAPANESE POPSTARS “SONG FOR LISA”
The poignant new single from The Japanese Popstar’s new LP Controlling Your Allegiance is now available at Maxi featuring Benny Benassi, Joris Voorn, Tong & Rogers and Areveene & Misks remixes. Listen here.
AFRIKA BAMBAATAA “JUST GET UP AND DANCE”
Here’s a little hip-house flash back to 1990 with “Just Get Up And Dance” by Afrika Bambaataa. Hanging on to the 80′s with a graffiti warehouse filled with downtown hipsters and hip hop kids as house music was ruling the clubs. This still sounds great!
THE JAPANESE POPSTARS “JOSHUA”
Another great animated video from The Japanese Popstars. Remixes of “Joshua” from their Controlling Your Allegiance LP on Astralwerks will be available here this week.
