THIS IS A SERIOUS HEAD ALERT! Etienne Jaumet’s Night Music may not be for everyone but if you’re looking for a mind-expanding work-out, start clicking the download buttons immediately. He’s recorded with just about everyone across the French International and Indie Folk world and has 6 LPs with his bands Flop and The Married Monk but he found his way into the electronic world as one half of Zombie Zombie, who’s 2008 Land Of Renegades LP was an underground hit, and his single “Repeat Again After Me” described as Detroit-on-Seine all on respected Paris label Versatile. On Night Music Etienne turned to his Steve Reich and Klaus Schulze influences to create a techno tour-de-force of psychedelic landscapes that impressed Carl Craig, the godfather of modern electronic music, so much on demo, he produced it for him. Except for the dreamy harp and additional vocals of French legend Emmanuelle Parrenin, Etienne composed and played everything in one live pass to retain warmth and spontaneity and Carl kept it all intact with a little tweaking to accentuate the sonic psychedelia of the cuts. Etienne and Carl infuse these free-jazz excursions with hypnotic rhythms that can induce magically wild dancing especially on the 20 minute “For Falling Asleep”, “Entropy” and “Mental Vortex”. Just come with an open playlist and open mind.
