In a world of indie bands dipping a cautious toe into the roiling waters of dance music, Delphic are post-dance futurist nostalgics from Manchester who have managed to fuse hypnotic beats and crisp electronics straight out of the underground with emotive indie-ness to emerge as one of the UK’s most exciting new bands. The key is they make all their music on their laptops before throwing live guitars, bass and drums on top so their music works just as well on stage as on a full dancefloor. It also helps to have a genius like Ewan Pearson (The Rapture, Ladytron, Tracey Thorn, Gwen Stefani, Goldfrapp) produce your LP. Nostalgia prevails on “Counterpoint” with man of the hour Paul Woolford stripping down to Chicago house drums and space invader synths, while The Chain deliver a deep, old-school, head trip. There’s also Delphic’s own tweaky take and Tim Goldsworthy’s suped-up, close to the LP version.
“The first great debut of 2010.” – NME
