When Nina Hagen sang “AM/PM, Pyramid, Roxy, Mudd Club, Danceteria” in her classic 1983 hit “New York, New York” she could have been reciting Johnny Dynell’s weekly djing schedule. Throughout the 80′s, dj/impresario Johnny Dynell played them all before opening his own place with his wife Chi Chi Valenti; the seminal, meatpacking district, hole-in-the-wall known as Jackie 60 that was the epicenter of downtown clubbing in the 90′s. As artist and songwriter, Johnny collaborated with Arthur Baker, Malcolm McLaren, Larry Levan, Peter Rauhofer, Eric Kupper and David Morales but it’s his very first 1983 breakout single produced by Kenton Nix (Heartbeat, Funky Sensation) and DJ Mark Kamins (fresh from producing Madonna “Everybody”) that gets a 2010 update. Tensnake and 40 Thieves rework the 80′s webo cult classic into some funky house and disco numbers. An Ilija Rudman re-edit of his follow-up “The Big Throwdown” is also included here and you can get the full remix package with Peter Rauhofer, Mark Kamins and Clouded Visions mixes at Juno Downloads.
