The Northern Ireland trio of The Japanese Popstars are set to release their debut LP Controlling Your Allegiance on June 21 chock full of future electronic classics bolstered by collaborations with Jon Spencer, Green Velvet and Robert Smith of The Cure. Their second single from the set features another prominent Smith as in Tom Smith of UK rockers The Editors. His brooding baritone lends a nostalgic urgency to “Joshua” reminiscent of New Order with a completely fresh electronic edge. Already sporting the Pete Tong/Essential Mix seal of approval, the dynamic set of remixes from Greg Churchill, Tom Starr, Myon And Shane 54 and The Popstars’ very own brilliant Midnight Mix, take the single into all kinds of deep, dark, progressive house territory. Great track from The Japanese Popstars. For me it's the original, Tom Starr & Greg Churchill mixes. Really nice follow up to the first single. And really like having great male vocals. Especially Tom Smith of the Editors. I'll be spinning this one.
